This City.

I've got the city in my sights and stardust in my eyes. I couldn't be more excited to be back in New York for fashion week. The energy is simply magnetic.

3 Things.

Stunning hydrangeas

I had the best weekend spent with family. Stephen's mother came out for a visit so we headed right down to Santa Cruz to visit with my mom for the weekend. Between the fresh crab, stunning weather and great company, a girl couldn't ask from much more.

Rest In Peace.

We woke yesterday to learn that S's grandmother had passed away. Having suffered a stroke on Friday, this was a truth we feared. While I only met her twice, those moments I will forever treasure. More than anything, it's just a reminder to hold on just a little bit tighter when you have the chance.

3 Things.

Even though my long week at the beach is now over, S and I still managed to find some fun in the city before settling back into reality. Currently, I'm trying to avoid this at all costs, but failing miserably. Happy Monday to those of you who are finding themselves at work today, you're good people. And an even happier Monday to those fortunate enough to have the day off - you're smart people.

1. Quality time spent with my darling grandmother - priceless.

2. Heading to The Fillmore to see S's favorite band, The Devil Makes Three

3. Riding around town with the cutest co-pilot #teamZiggy

Cherished Moments.

Feeling peaceful this morning walking along the beach with my grandmother as she tells stories about her life. These are the moments I live for.

Happy Thursday!

3 Things.

Well, that was a happy, yet brief time out from last week's hectic schedule with only more chaos anticipated ahead this week. With Memorial Day weekend just a few days away, the thought of spending time with friends and family is what's currently carrying me through.

1. Falling in love with new lip color, Le Fuchsia from YSL. Now, if I could only find a store not sold out....

2. Only good things happening at The Crepe House. Simply, to die for.

3. There's nothing like starting the day off with a slice of homemade banana bread I made over the weekend from my great grandmother's recipe - delicious!

Lentils & Veggies.

One of my favorite things about going back to the South Bay are the home cooked meals, especially since I'm not much of a cook. I enjoy trying out different sides, sauces and salads, but only have a handful of recipes that I consider my "go-to". Last weekend, my mom made the lentil veggie soup I loved so much growing up. After one bite, I asked my mom to share her recipe so I can make my tiny San Francisco apartment smell just like home.

Ingredients

1 pound French green lentils
3 large onions, chopped
2 leeks, chopped
1 tbsp minced garlic
1/4 cup olive oil
1 tbsp salt
1 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1 tbsp minced fresh thyme leaves
1 tsp ground cumin
8 stalks celery, diced
4 large carrots, chopped
3 quarts chicken stock
1/4 cup tomato paste
2 tbsp red wine vinegar
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Directions: In a large bowl, cover the lentils with boiling water and allow to sit for 15 minutes, then drain. In a large pot saute the onions, leeks, and garlic with the olive oil, salt, pepper, thyme, and cumin for 20 minutes, until the vegetables are translucent and very tender. Add the celery and carrots and saute for 10 more minutes. Add the chicken stock, tomato paste, and lentils. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 1 hour, until the lentils are cooked through. Add the red wine vinegar and serve hot, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with grated Parmesan cheese. Enjoy!

3 Things.

Needless to say, the past few weeks have brought a mixture of emotions over people and is setting a much different tone to this Christmas as the nation still mourns.  Tonight I head back to Santa Cruz to continue celebrating the holiday’s with my mother and grandma and then tomorrow my favorite will arrive, and then my father later in the week. The older I get, the more I appreciate this time of year knowing how fortunate I am to have my family and friends. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday filled with love, health and happiness xx

1. The stirring seas of the Yacht Harbor

2. Hiding out from the rainy day at the Nick – something I haven’t done since college

3. Spending quality time with my main man.

3 Things.

There's nothing like spending the holiday with my two favorite gals. This year my mom and I took the show on the road and visited my Grandmother in Texas for Thanksgiving. The trip itself wasn’t all too eventful, but the time spent together was priceless. As I get older, I find more and more it’s the simple things that matter most.

2.      Shopping for accessories and sparkly baubles at Charming Charlie

Sandcastle Magic.

My grandmother is an artist and I'm fortunate enough to have inherited that same appreciation. Grandmere {or Grandmother in French} fostered my love for art at an early age; growing up I would visit her for a week every year. Each day we would get up early and work in her studio - one year we sculpted another we painted with water color and then the next we cast jewelry. Each experience so different from the last, each one with memories I'll always keep with me. So the other day my artistic spark flared when I watched a glass demonstation at Open Studio in Santa Cruz....

Seriously, I really want to learn how to make glass jewelry.

3 Things.

The weather in San Francisco is absolutely incredible and took full advantage over the weekend while my parents were in town. The two greatest people I know; I just love them so much!

1. Exploring the hilly streets of Nob Hill with my dad.

2. Taking time to stop and smell the roses with my mom.

3. A sparkly gift from the best man I know – my dad.
