The Neverending Story.

Pretty powerful. Studded peep toe pump.

I'm kinda thinking I need these shoes.

{Sam Edelman Lorissa}

I cannot believe February will be here tomorrow; I'm think I may be still recovering from the holidays. But the fun has just begun with my impending departure to New York, and shortly after, Palm Springs, just around the corner. Now it's time to focus, I've already begun mentally packing, making restaurant reservations, narrowing down which boutiques to visit while I'm away and most importantly, filling in my wardrobe blanks - a never ending project.

Yep, I think I need these shoes.

MomArt.

Everyone once in a while one of these gems pops up in my email - a photo taken by my mom. She walks a million miles a day and takes pics of all things she deems beautiful. And sometimes I'm lucky enough to have one sent my way. Seeing a piece of home always brings a smile to my face.

She's pretty savvy with that little camera on her blackberry, isn't she?

Lucky me.

{SM Luxe lock boot, $119.95}

Lucky for me my mom had some savings to spend at DSW and she had me in mind while she shopped solo. She picked picked these SM Luxe boots, which I now believe are the perfect day (& city) boot - low heel, textured black leather, brushed hardware that blends nicely into the boot (unlike the photo above, not sure why it's like that). I love my new boots, but sad to have missed one of our trips to DSW.

Till next time DSW....

Lavender Shortbread.

My mom, Ziggy and I headed to the beach last weekend to enjoy the warmer weather. Another thing I love about the beach..? Having a full kitchen to make lavender shortbread cookies. Not only are these cookies delicious, but your kitchen smells divine as they bake in the oven.

Who knew you could eat lavender?!

Ingredients:
• 8oz butter, room temperature
• 2 cups flour
• 3/4 tsp salt
• 1/2 cup sugar (white)
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1/4 tsp almond extract
• 1 tsp lavender
• 2 tbs sea salt
• 2 tbs sugar (turbinado)

Directions:
Using mixer, mix flour, butter, sugar (white), and salt. Add vanilla & almond extract and lavender, mix until fluffy. Roll dough into circular or square logs. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate until firm. Slice dough 1/8" thin and place on baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt and sugar (turbinado). Bake 325° for 15 to 20 minutes.

Certain Comforts.

It's been one week since I have returned from Colorado and I am still struggling to get back to the reality of city life; mostly because of this cold I have been trying to shake, plus I escaped to the beach for the warm-er weekend. Either way, while I am sad not to have one of my best friends right down the hallway anymore, I do get to visit her in Colorado - a place I love so much - as she begins a new chapter in her life. I am sure she will bring the same love and warmth she exudes herself into her new home. Until then, here are a few items that brought me comfort during my visit.

Real Baby.

{Weiner dog, Beba Bean}

While holding the leashes of 2 pups outside a little neighborhood coffee shop in The Highlands (north of Denver) which is full of locally owned salons, boutiques and restaurants, I noticed Real Baby across the street. And since I have the cutest co-worker who is very pregnant with a baby boy, I knew this would be the perfect gift for about-to-be-born Baby R.

303.

After spending the holiday weekend in Colorado, it was a little hard to get back to reality. Minus a major blonde moment, I finally made it home on my "delayed" flight. I mean, Gate A40 looks just like A30, right? Plus Blackberry's really should change with the time zones. Anyway, other than my little flight mix up, my weekend enjoying some of my favorite people (complete with two adorable pups) enjoying the neighborhood boutiques, yummy home cooked meals, a night out on the town and the spectacular scenary - such an amazing back drop to life, it's hard not to love Colorado.

Not to mention the view.

Where in the snow globe could I be heading?
Have a happy long holiday weekend!

Staying Neutral.

{JCrew jacket, top & necklace}

Stripes, fur, snake skin..? Why not add a chunky necklace?

I love neutrals.

{Guess shoes}
Speaking of things I love....I am loving my tailor for moving the buttons of my new jacket (mentioned here) in just minutes. I can't stress enough the importance of a good tailor.

If you're in the Financial District, see Jacky.

Parsley Pesto.

When putting the garnish on my parsley pesto pasta dish last night, I immediately thought of my great grandmother. Every week, her and her friends would meet at Denny's for breakfast. She would bring a baggy and collect all the parsley garnish from the plates and then use it during the week. She was just cute like that. Parsley always brings a smile to my face - a funny thing to say about a garnish, I know.

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 2 tbsp toasted pine nuts
  • 2 tbsp fresh grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 1/2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in food processor; process until smooth.

Enjoy!

Choices, Choices.

I've just learned that my Fashion Week tickets have been secured (thanks to my Mom & AmEx) and a trip to New York is in the near future. Of course, I have begun mentally scanning my wardrobe for the perfect outfit. While I'm having much success with pieces I already own (mind you, I'm still daydreaming), I realize I am lacking the perfect purse to tote around my blackberry, ID, camera and lipstick (yep, only the necessities for me). I came across these 2 fabulous potentials on one of my favorite blogs, Keiko Lynn (Guest Blogger #3 for Coach).

{Coach tangle ballchain small bag, $258}

Which bag would you choose?

Peep-toes & Wedges & Booties, Oh my!

So many styles all wrapped up in one shoe. But instead of a bow, Botkier used buckles. Even better.

Look at what she did.

See how cute my mom is? She made the Jicama & Mango Salad I posted about here and sent a photo for my blog.

Think she made Ty Flo proud?

Gone Country.

As previously mentioned here, Christmas was quite the whirlwind. After a quick trip to the beach house, I headed waaay up north to spend some time in the country - something I have never done. I was lucky enough to spend time with some incredible people. Everywhere I turned, I found inspiration all around the ranch with hints of Portuguese influence - love!

I managed the whole trip in these boots. Fashion really does come first.
